Harry Styles’ ‘As It Was’ Is Still Going Strong As It Celebrates A Year On The Hot 100

This week’s Hot 100 is brimming with new entries and returning favorites. Jimin takes the lead spot for the first time with “Like Crazy,” Ed Sheeran makes a comeback with “Eyes Closed” debuting in the top 40, and familiar names like Luke Combs and Lil Baby make their return. There is one song that is decidedly not new, but which has stood the test of time and now maintained its home on the Hot 100 for a remarkable period of time.

Harry Styles’ hit single “As It Was” has now spent a full year on the Hot 100, appearing on the list for a total of 52 weeks. During this time, the song has remained incredibly popular and has barely shifted from the upper echelons of the chart.

This week, “As It Was” is positioned at No. 12, just

outside of the top 10. For a song that has been charting for a full year, this is a highly impressive achievement, particularly given the fast-paced nature of pop music. In fact, the track actually rises on the chart this week, moving up from its previous position at No. 15.

“As It Was” has been a rare, once-in-a-decade hit single, spending an impressive 15 non-consecutive weeks at the top spot of the Hot 100. This makes it the fourth-longest-running chart-topper in history. The song achieved this feat across five separate stints, which is also a record-breaking achievement in itself.

Even after it relinquished its hold on the top spot, “As It Was” remained a popular choice among music fans. The song spent a total of 38 weeks in the top 10 on the Hot 100–the fifth-most weeks spent in this range by any song.

One of the main reasons for the continued success of “As It Was” is its continued popularity at radio. The song still maintains a presence on the Radio Songs chart at No. 11, on the Pop Airplay chart at No. 14, and on the Adult Contemporary chart at No. 4.
