Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Kenny Clark and cornerback Rasul Douglas were named winners of the 2022 Tom Mulhern Stand-Up Guy Award.
The award is voted on by the Green Bay chapter of the Professional Football Writers of America. The award is presented to the player or players that have shown “exemplary professionalism in helping pro football writers covering the Green Bay Packers do their jobs.”
Clark, Green Bay’s first round draft pick in 2016, also received the award in 2018. Clark joined Davante Adams (three) and Tramon Williams (two) as multiple winners of the award.
“First off, we all got a job to do,” Clark said when asked why he engages well with the media. “Gotta respect you guys’ work. I just feel like it’s the right thing to do, win or lose, come up and talk and explain what happened in the game or whatever the case may be.
“I’m super appreciative for the award. I respect everybody’s work. Anytime I got a chance to talk and you guys have a question, I’m going to answer it.”
Douglas joined the Packers on Oct., 2021, after being signed from Arizona’s practice squad.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions that prohibited reporters from entering the locker room in 2021, media members didn’t get a chance to interact with Douglas until this season. They quickly found him engaging and informative.
“The biggest thing for me is I respect everyone’s work. I respect you guys’ work,” Douglas said. “I understand y’all have a job to do. I think it’s different. You guys don’t try to attack anybody. You don’t try to make stories or try to cause drama here. You ask great questions and talk to us. I like it a lot.
“I always ask the guys about how the locker room is with the media because in Philly (where he was drafted) the media mob is big. They can sway something you say. I asked them and they said y’all are great at asking questions and not switching up words. Just keeping the main focus, the main focus.”
The Stand-Up Guy Award is named for late Tom Mulhern, who covered the Packers from 1986-1998 for the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Milwaukee Sentinel, Appleton Post-Crescent and Wisconsin State Journal.
Mulhern died in Oct., 2014 from complications caused by Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease at age 56.
