GOP Rep. Greg Steube Sustains ‘Several Injuries’ In Accident At His Home

Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) sustained multiple injuries following an accident at his home on Wednesday afternoon, his office announced in a statement on Twitter.

The Twitter statement did not provide additional details about the nature of the accident but urged people to “ pray for the Congressman and his family.”

According to a report by Florida Politics, Steube was carrying out “routine home maintenance” when he fell nearly 25 feet from his roof to the ground.

Following the accident, the Congressman was transported to a local Sarasota area hospital.

Christian Ziegler, the vice chairman of the Florida Republican Party later tweeted that Steube was still in the hospital but “is doing well.”

Steube has served as the Representative for Florida’s 17th district—which covers the cities of Sarasota and Venice—since 2019. He was recently assigned to serve on the House Ways and Means Committee. Prior to his election to the U.S. Congress Steube served three terms in the Florida House of Representatives and one term in the state’s senate. Before joining politics Steube had served in the U.S. Army from 2004 to 2008. Recently Steube has been critical of the Biden administration’s decision to dismiss military members who refused to get vaccinated against Covid-19 and has called for an investigation into the chaotic withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan.
