Gojira Release New Anthemic Single, ‘Our Time Is Now’

Time after timer, Gojira stand out as one of modern metal’s most noteworthy and versatile bands. Whether it’s their 2021 melodic metal masterpiece Fortitude, which earned them their 2nd grammy nomination, or their 2005 progressive death metal opus From Mars To Sirius, much of Gojira’s success can certainly be credited to their widespread appeal. Today however marks the release of the band’s first new single since 2021’s Fortitude, and much like their last LP, the new track amalgamates their brilliant sense of heavy riff writing and melodic choruses.

“Our Time Is Now” is Gojira’s latest single, and it just so happens to be one of the many rock oriented tracks featured on this year’s new NHL video game, NHL 23. While the band has been on more of a melodic trend the past two album cycles, “Our Time Is Now” sets itself as their most anthemic and straightforward track to date. And that’s not to say the track doesn’t hold back any punches, in fact it actually features the most intricate guitar solo the band has ever done, along with a very Sabbath-Doom inspired breakdown finale. The anthemic chorus and simplistic riff writing works well, especially in the context of a AAA video game where players might not be as exposed to heavy music.

Overall, “Our Time Is Now” is another great Gojira track. It features the same pristine production of their eclectic masterpiece Fortitude (both of which were mixed by the legendary Andy Wallace), and more importantly its a great starting point for new listeners of the band who may not enjoy the more extreme side to Gojira or heavy music in general.

However, as it pertains to longtime Gojira fans, many might be wondering if this new track signals a new album or EP is in the works. I’d certainly bet the answer to that is no, at least not anytime soon. Fortitude is just over a year old and by the trend of Gojira’s album/tour cycles they typically take 3-5 years between releasing new studio albums. Not counting their support tour for Deftones this past spring, it’s also worth mentioning that Gojira has only completed one full headline tour in both North America and Europe since Fortitude’s release. I think it’s more than likely Gojira have another headline or co-headline tour in the works before they start production on another album or EP.
