Since its initial release back in the summer of 1987, “It’s a Sin,” originally made famous by English synth-pop pair the Pet Shop Boys, has taken on a new life – or new lives, that is. “It’s a Sin” is a favorite for artists to cover, with stars from many different genres putting their own spin on the sometimes-controversial tune.
More than half a decade ago, Swedish hard rock outfit Ghost included a reworking of “It’s a Sin” on the band’s album Prequelle, and it’s taken until now for the cut to become a big hit in the United Kingdom.
Ghost Debuts “It’s a Sin” on Two U.K. Charts
Ghost’s rendition of “It’s a Sin” launches on two tallies in the UK this week, as it’s a bestseller for the first time. “It’s a Sin” opens at No. 19 on both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads rosters.
Ghost Reaches a New Career High as “It’s a Sin” Debuts
As it debuts, “It’s a Sin” immediately becomes Ghost’s biggest hit on the Official Singles Downloads chart. The group has never before cracked the top 20 on the U.K.’s list of the bestselling tunes on download storefronts. “It’s a Sin” grabs the honor of being the band’s loftiest placement from “Lachryma,” which peaked at No. 27 in the spring of 2025.
“It’s a Sin” Stands as Ghost’s Second-Highest-Rising Hit
The same cut opens in the exact same position on the Official Singles Sales chart, but unlike on the downloads-only roster, “It’s a Sin” does not mark a new career high for Ghost on the main roster that looks at the top-selling tunes via any format. “Kiss the Go-Goat,” which earned Ghost its first appearance on the Official Singles Sales tally back in 2019, once climbed to No. 14, and that continues to hold as the troupe’s most impressive position reached.
Ghost Reaches a Milestone Number of Smashes With “It’s a Sin”
Ghost earns its milestone tenth appearance on both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads lists as “It’s a Sin” arrives. The group racked up a trio of bestsellers in 2025, as “Satanized,” “Lachryma,” and “Peacefield” all featured on the album Skeleta, managed to spend at least one week on the rankings, if not several.

Ghost claims the third-loftiest debut on the two British charts. “It’s a Sin” comes in behind a pair of brand new top 10s, as the lists are ruled by “Not Such an Innocent Girl” from Victoria Beckham. That cut debuts at No. 1 as family drama brings Beckham back into headlines globally.
Dolly Parton scores the only other new arrival that settles ahead of “It’s a Sin,” as “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” which was recently re-released to honor the country musician’s eightieth birthday, starts at No. 10.
Prequelle Track Enjoys a Major Boost Thanks to a High-Profile Sync
Ghost’s version of “It’s a Sin” was originally found on deluxe editions of the band’s 2018 album Prequelle, and a special sync helps the cut finally become a bestseller in the U.K. The tune is used to soundtrack a trailer for the video game Lords of the Fallen 2, which is scheduled to be released later this year.
Two Songs by Ghost Chart – But Not Together
Ghost doubles its total number of current hits in the U.K. as “It’s a Sin” arrives. The track joins “Kiss the Go-Goat,” which drops from No. 66 to No. 87 on the Official Physical Singles chart. The Grammy-winning band – which is also currently in the running for the fourth time for Best Metal Performance for “Lachryma – does not see any crossover between “Kiss the Go-Goat” and “It’s a Sin,” as they do not share space on any roster.
