Gemini AI can now remember your past conversations

Google Gemini announced that you can ask the Gemini AI to consider your past chats to craft its responses. The firm also said that Gemini will let you easily pick up where you left off, or you can have it summarize a previous topic.

Google had previously rolled out the ability for Gemini to remember your preferences, but it said its latest update goes further by letting the AI reference discussions from the past. The tech firm also revealed that you can access updated Gemini AI features at any time.

Gemini AI can recall past conversations

Google revealed that its Gemini AI assistant can now recall past conversations to provide more relevant responses. The AI will let you recall past chats only if you have a subscription to Gemini Advanced via Google One AI Premium.

The firm promised that the new feature will eliminate the need for you to recap previous chats or search for a thread to pick up a conversation, since Gemini will already have the context it needs. Google also said that Gemini AI will also let you build on top of previous conversations or projects you’ve already started.

The chatbot will let you review, delete, and manage your Gemini chat history by selecting your profile picture in the top right corner of the Gemini app and then selecting “Gemini Apps Activity.” The app will also let you turn off Gemini Apps Activity altogether by going to My Activity. Gemini AI may also indicate when it uses your past chats in sources and related content.

Google noted that you can access the new recall feature in English on Gemini’s web or mobile app. The platform also maintained that it plans to bring the feature to more languages in the coming weeks. The tech giant will also add the feature to Google Workspace Business and Enterprise customers at a later date.

Google introduced a Saved Info feature in November 2023, which let users set personal preferences on the platform. Gemini’s new chat recall aligns it with the memory capabilities of ChatGPT and Claude Ai, which have featured persistent conversation memory for some time.

“Memory enhances decision-making by retaining past interactions. It allows agents to learn, adapt, and improve over time instead of running in isolated loops. Without it, agents are stuck in the moment, incapable of long-term reasoning, strategy adaptation, or continuous learning.”

Raph Pautard, Co-founder of Elyra AI Agent.

Pautard also argued that without memory, AI couldn’t learn, adapt, or improve its software. He considers AI without memory as a roadblock for DeFi and marketing. The co-founder of Elyra also maintained that expanding memory isn’t just a technical challenge but also computationally expensive, which makes autonomous AI difficult to achieve.

Gemini releases new features on Android devices

Google announced its new features at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event. The firm said they make Gemini a more helpful, personalized, and accessible assistant for Android devices. They also revealed the Gemini Live feature, which will allow you to have natural and free-flowing conversations with Gemini.

Google also said that Gemini Live will allow you to add images, files and YouTube videos to the conversation. The option to add images, files and YouTube videos rolled out on the Samsung Galaxy S24 and S25 series, and also on Pixel 9 devices. The firm also promised to expand to more Android devices this month.

The tech company highlighted that it would bring Project Astra capabilities like screen sharing and live video streaming first to the Gemini mobile app on Android and the Samsung Galaxy S25 in the coming months.

Google also revealed that Gemini would connect to more extensions across Samsung apps on Galaxy S25 phones. The AI tool will also give you the option to use multiple extensions in a single prompt. According to Google, there are multi-extension prompts available to all Gemini users on the web, Android and iOS.

The firm also started rolling out access to Deep Research in the Gemini mobile app for Advanced users, which it said will save them hours of research even when on the go.
