Popularity of crypto, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and metaverse makes a huge impact. This results in wide adoption of crypto assets even by unconventional companies. Recent example of the same is Funko, which plans to bring NFTs within the retail space. The bobbleheads and vinyl figurines making company also announced its partnership with retail giant Walmart and entertainment studio Warner Bros.
Funko planned to bring NFTs along with a Digital Pop series. This is said to be featuring cover pop from The Brave and the Bold comic of DC. Apparently, the digital collectible item would be featuring the collaboration of Justice League against the supervillain Starro. The NFTs are set to be exclusively available from October 7th, 2022 on Walmart.com.
According to Funko, its Digital Pop NFTs is to debut during upcoming Walmart Collector Con and there will be about 30,000 units available for offering. These collectibles will be in both NFTs as well as physical form.
Crypto Exposure is Not New for Funko and Walmart
Funko has the non-fungible tokens exposure earlier than Digital Pop as the firm has been in the NFT space for a while now. Recently the firm also reported partnering with Paramount for “Avatar Legends” NFTs.
Retail giant Walmart is traditionally not a tech-savvy company, its entry within the crypto like bitcoin and NFTs and digital space is expected though. In January this year, there were reports that Walmart might soon collaborate to step into the digital space. Moreover the plan also included creation of own crypto assets and non-fungible tokens.
In October, 2021, Walmart’s involvement with bitcoin ATMs was also reported. There were about 200 machines installed by Coinstar across Walmart’s different outlets. These bitcoin ATMs (BTMs) were serving to offer bitcoin in Walmart’s premises.
Earlier this year, prominent trading card, candy and collectible items company Topps also introduced a series of 2021 Garbage Pail Kids Food Fight. This included physical cards as well as NFTs for Garbage Pail Kids. The NFTs were sold along with the GPK packs, which again were placed at retail stores of Walmart and Target.
