‘Friends’ Actor Mike Hagerty Dies At 67

Character actor Mike Hagerty, who was a familiar face as a guest star on dozens of TV shows throughout the course of his career, has died. He was three days short of his 68th birthday, and is best known for his five appearances on the NBC comedy Friends as landlord Mr. Treeger. The cause of his passing has not been revealed.

“With great sadness, the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles,” actress Bridget Everett shared on Instagram on Friday. Hagerty and Everett appeared together on the HBO comedy Somebody, Somewhere, which concluded its first season in February.

“A beloved character actor, his love of his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life. Mike, a devoted husband, is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty [and] her wife Kathleen O’Rourke, and their daughter Meg. He will be sorely missed.”

Born on May 10, 1954, Hagerty amassed a wide range of guest star roles on series like Cheers, Crime Story, Married With Children, Family Ties, Dear John and Martin before landing his first regularly scheduled part in the Bonnie Hunt sitcom The Building in 1993.

His next two regular TV series role came courtesy of comedies The George Carlin Show and The Home Court in the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons, respectively. Hagerty was first seen on Friends in the 1995 episode titled “The One Where Heckles Dies.”

Following a rash of other TV guest roles (including reuniting with Bonnie Hunt in two episodes of Life With Bonnie), Hagerty had a recurring role on the HBO comedy Lucky Louie in 2006-07 season.

More recently, Hagerty recurred in the aforementioned comedy Somebody, Somewhere.
