Friday, April 1st Solution Plus A Hint

Well folks, it’s that time of year again: The Worst Day On The Internet—aka April Fool’s Day.

This is a day when brand’s like Tesla come up with very, very lame “pranks” like the Model W, adult websites change their branding to CornHub and various other silly, not particularly funny or prankish corporate shenanigans.

Then there are all the prank headlines and attempts at being funny from innumerable blogs and on social media and sometimes people fall for it and there’s much hullaballoo and ballyhooing and all the rest and it’s just annoying.

I suppose I’m just a grouch when it comes to this particular day.

Anyways. There’s still a Wordle on April Fools—don’t believe any of the jokers who tell you otherwise. Let’s take a look shall we?

See yesterday’s Wordle answer #285 right here.

Today’s Wordle #286 Answer & Hint

Even though it’s April 1st, I’m going to give you a spoiler warning. We’ll start with a hint before we get to the correct answer.

Hint: Pigs use these to find truffles.

And the answer is . . . .

Snout!

As you can see, I started with a fitting enough first guess. My initial starting word was April but the game didn’t allow it. I guess Wordle doesn’t let you use any kind of proper noun, which makes sense. It was worth a try!

Fools got me a green ‘O’ and a yellow ‘S’ and from here, spore seemed like a reasonable next guess. That got me ‘S’ in the right spot but nothing else. Shock did nothing at all except eliminate more letters.

I realized at this point that ‘T’ was almost certainly one of the correct letters, and stout got me four greens and one grey. At this point, with ‘P’ and ‘C’ already eliminated, I didn’t have to worry about scout or spout and was able to go in for the kill with snout.

Which, by the way, is a great word. It has such a visceral quality. Snout sounds like a snout, more than nose sounds like a nose, if that makes any sense.

TGIF dearest puzzlers! Have a terrific first weekend of April!
