Frank Ocean Has Officially Pulled Out Of Coachella Weekend 2

The anticipation surrounding Frank Ocean’s performance at Coachella this past weekend was met with mixed reviews from fans. Now, unfortunately, the R&B artist has canceled his headlining slot scheduled for this Sunday, leaving fans and future attendees disappointed. The news was first reported by Variety.

Ocean’s performance during the festival’s opening weekend was a topic of debate among fans. While the set was deemed perfectly fine by some–including pop star Justin Bieber–there were unmissable production issues, and some in attendance said he was low-energy. A reported planned performance that featured an ice rink and dozens of skaters was abruptly canceled, with reports initially suggesting that Ocean was the one who opted out.

The cancellation is certainly disappointing for fans of the R&B powerhouse, but it is good news for Blink-182 followers. The band–with its original lineup–was announced as a last-minute addition to the festival, and they played with little warning. The show marked their first appearance together since founding singer-guitarist Tom DeLonge left the band in 2014.

Fellow Coachella headliners Bad Bunny and Blackpink are expected to return for the second weekend of the event, as planned. Fans can look forward to their performances without any cancellations.

Variety published a statement from Ocean’s team (at least in part), saying:“Frank Ocean will not be performing at weekend 2 of Coachella.

After suffering an injury to his leg on festival grounds in the week leading up to weekend 1. Frank Ocean was unable to perform the intended show but was still intent on performing, and in 72 hours, the show was reworked out of necessity.

On doctor’s advice, [Ocean] is not able to perform weekend 2 due to two fractures and a sprain in his left leg.”Also included was a short message from the Grammy winner himself:

‘It was chaotic. There is some beauty in chaos. It isn’t what I intended to show but I did enjoy being out there and I’ll see you soon.’ — Frank Ocean.”
