Foo Fighters debut “Today’s Song” at No. 1 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, marking the … More
In addition to being one of rock’s most critically adored bands, the Foo Fighters are also known to be fairly prolific. While some groups that have been together for decades space out releases by years and take long hiatuses, that’s never been the case for the Dave Grohl-led outfit.
The group recently dropped a brand new single, “Today’s Song,” with very little warning — and, as is typically the case whenever the Grammy winners produce new music, the track quickly found success in America.
Foo Fighters Score a New No. 1 Hit
“Today’s Song” has become not only a winner on several Billboard charts, but also a new champion for one of the most beloved names in rock. The track earns a lofty debut across a variety of Billboard’s tallies, but it performs best on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart.
Foo Fighters collect an eighth No. 1 on that chart, as the surprise release launches in first place, replacing Disturbed’s beloved cover of “The Sound of Silence” atop the list.
Eight No. 1s for the Foo Fighters
Foo Fighters first reached No. 1 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart more than a decade ago when “Rope” opened in first place in March 2011. It’s been less than a year since the band last conquered the tally, earning a new leader when “My Hero,” one of the band’s most iconic tunes – and oldest – finally reached the summit in September 2024, nearly a decade after first appearing on the ranking of the bestselling hard rock tracks in the U.S.
Including its latest champion, Foo Fighters have now ruled the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart with all of the following tracks: “Everlong,” “Boom,” “Walk,” “Rope,” “My Hero,” “Something from Nothing,” “Run,” “Times Like These,” and now, “Today’s Song.”
A New Top 10 Hit on Multiple Charts
“Today’s Song” kicks off its time inside the top 10 on four Billboard charts, three of which focus entirely on purchases. In addition to the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales tally, the latest from Foo Fighters enters the highest tier on both the Alternative Digital Song Sales and Rock Digital Song Sales lists, coming in at Nos. 4 and 7, respectively.
“Today Song” Becomes an Instant Radio Top 10
The track also scores a huge debut on the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, where it opens at No. 8. Starting off inside the top 10, or even at No. 1, on a sales-based roster is far more common than doing the same on a radio-focused ranking. While fans alone determine placement on sales charts, dozens (if not hundreds) of DJs and radio programmers must choose to put a track into heavy rotation immediately upon release for it to start inside the uppermost region on any airplay list.
