Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” returns to three U.K. charts as interest in the Rumours classic surges, … More
“The Chain” has long ranked as one of Fleetwood Mac’s most popular songs. The track is featured on the group’s masterpiece Rumours, but it was never actually selected as a single. That hasn’t stopped millions of people from streaming and buying the cut throughout decades — or from turning it into a hit across a variety of charts in the United Kingdom.
This week, “The Chain” appears on three musical rankings in the U.K., reentering all of them as interest in the track grows yet again.
“The Chain” Returns to Three Charts at Once
“The Chain” reenters the Official Singles Downloads chart at No. 74 and lands at No. 80 on the Official Singles Sales tally. Fleetwood Mac’s composition also returns to the Official Streaming list, coming in at No. 100.
“The Chain” Never Disappears for Long
It’s only been a few months since “The Chain” last appeared on both sales tallies in the U.K., as it was seen as recently in March 2025. The cut has fared better on the streaming list recently, as it could be found on the tally in late June, so it’s only been absent for a short time.
20-Plus Weeks on the Charts
“The Chain” has now spent more than 20 weeks on all three tallies – a relatively short stretch of time for such a beloved cut. In the past, it has peaked at No. 50 on both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts, and it climbed as high as No. 70 on the Official Streaming tally.
Fleetwood Mac’s Tune Debuted Decades Late
The track’s trajectory on the charts in the U.K. was delayed, as Fleetwood Mac didn’t launch “The Chain” on the Official Singles Downloads ranking until 2009. It would be seven more years before it landed on the all-encompassing Official Singles Sales list. The tune only appeared for the first time on the Official Streaming chart in late 2020, despite originally being released in early 1977.
F1 Movie and YouTubers React
Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” regularly returns to a number of rankings in the U.K., and it doesn’t take much for the track to become a strong streamer or bestseller again. The tune was recently featured in the trailer for Brad Pitt’s new racing movie F1, which has dominated the box office globally and become a summer blockbuster.
A video also recently went viral featuring two YouTubers reacting to hearing Fleetwood Mac’s classic for the first time and loving it — which millions of fans around the world agree with.
