Fleetwood Mac Blocked From Hitting No. 1 For The First Time On One Chart

For a group that has largely stayed away from releasing any new material for many years, Fleetwood Mac performs spectacularly well on the music charts in the United Kingdom. Each and every week, the band lives close to – if not inside – the highest tier on several albums rosters, while multiple singles can appear near one another across sales, streaming, and general consumption rankings.

As is the case with many legacy acts, it’s a compilation that most listeners flock to, and when it comes to Fleetwood Mac, that set is typically 50 Years – Don’t Stop. That title nearly earns Fleetwood Mac its first leader on one roster in the U.K., but once more, it misses out on ruling by just a single spot.

Fleetwood Mac Returns to Its All-Time Peak

On the current Official Albums Streaming chart, 50 Years – Don’t Stop lands at No. 2. The compilation steps up one space as it returns to its all-time high point. 50 Years – Don’t Stop has never made it to No. 1, but it has come this close before.

50 Years – Don’t Stop Needed Years to Hit No. 2

50 Years – Don’t Stop first climbed to No. 2 on the Official Albums Streaming tally, which ranks the most successful full-length albums and EPs across the UK on sites such as Spotify and Apple Music, back in February 2022. By that point, the compilation had already spent years on the roster, and it would be multiple years before the set surged back to such an impressive position.

Olivia Dean Blocks Fleetwood Mac from No. 1

In three of the past four weeks on the Official Albums Streaming chart, 50 Years – Don’t Stop has been blocked from the penthouse by just one rung. During each of those frames, Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving has run the show, as the project has quickly turned her into an international sensation, and British listeners can’t seem to get enough of her latest full-length.

Fleetwood Mac Chases the Band’s First Streaming Leader

Fleetwood Mac is still looking to score its first No. 1 on the Official Albums Streaming list, where 50 Years – Don’t Stop remains its top performer. In fact, the compilation is the only project by the band to crack the top 10, although several other favorites have come very close.

The Very Best Of, Rumours, and another take on The Very Best Of have thus far peaked at Nos. 11, 12, and 14, respectively, coming within striking distance of the highest region. Two other releases by Fleetwood Mac, Greatest Hits and Tusk, missed out on the top 40 entirely, as they peaked at Nos. 46 and 48, respectively.

50 Years – Don’t Stop Thrives on Multiple U.K. Charts

50 Years – Don’t Stop only appears on two tallies across the Atlantic, and it’s a huge success on both of them. As it settles into the runner-up space on the streaming-only roster, the compilation dips one rung to No. 5 on the Official Albums chart. That tally ranks the most consumed albums and EPs in the UK. 50 Years – Don’t Stop has spent 375 weeks on the pair of competitive lists, and it has never made it to No. 1 on either of them.

Three Albums by Fleetwood Mac Chart in the U.K.

It’s another typical week for Fleetwood Mac on the British charts, which means that three different projects find space on multiple rosters. In addition to 50 Years – Don’t Stop, the band’s Greatest Hits appears on a duo of tallies, though not the same two, while Rumours can be found on half a dozen lists.

“Landslide,” “Dreams,” “The Chain,” “Everywhere” and “Silver Springs”

Five hugely popular songs by Fleetwood Mac are also charting this week. All five — “Landslide,” “Dreams,” “The Chain,” “Everywhere,” and “Silver Springs” — can be found on the Official Streaming list, while the first three are also performing well enough to live on the main list of the most-consumed tracks in the U.K. (where the Official Charts Company only allows each lead act to score three wins at the same time).

“The Chain” returns to both the Official Singles Downloads and Official Singles Sales charts, landing in the lower reaches of the two rosters. The same cut lifts six spaces to No. 53 on the Official Streaming ranking, climbing to a never-before-seen high.
