In a Zoom conversation prior to the release of Final Destination Bloodlines in theaters, Zach Liposky and Adam Stein said one of their goals in directing the new Final Destination film was to make the deaths seem plausible.

“Everyone has that feeling all day of, ‘Oh, this is a little off, but it’ll be fine,’ like every time you get on a plane to every time you walk across the street to every time you take a subway,” Lipovsky explained. “There are small things in your everyday life where there’s this voice that’s like, ‘Eh? It’ll be all right.’ So, every time we had that feeling, we went, “You know what? What if it wasn’t, right? Let’s put that in the movie, so you constantly have this awareness.’”

That awareness also includes the brutal backyard barbecue mishap that kicks off Final Destination Bloodline’s Rube Goldberg machine-inspired final trailer.

“What makes this movie work is that there are these very relatable, everyday things that everyone experiences,” Lipovsky noted. “Everyone’s tried to light a barbecue that’s not quite lighting, you know?”

Final Destination Bloodlines was a huge hit in theaters, earning $138.1 million domestically and nearly $147.2 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $285.3 million. The film had a $50 million production budget before prints and advertising costs, according to The Numbers.

In addition, Final Destination Bloodlines was celebrated by Rotten Tomatoes critics, who collectively gave the film a 93% “fresh” rating based on 223 reviews. The film also received an 87% “fresh” score on RT’s Popcornmeter based on 5,000-plus verified user ratings.
