Fila has a new on-court tennis silhouette designed around comfort and feel.
Developed out of Fila’s advanced concepts center, the new Speedserve Energized builds off the brand’s Axilus 2 Energized line, but with a nod toward structural technology to improve on-court responsiveness and bring a form-fitting feel.
Crafted with feedback from tennis players Ann Li, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Tommy Haas and Soonwoo Kwon, the new model features Energized Rubber cushioning at the forefoot and heel. This proprietary compound aims for enhanced shock absorption to provide greater responsiveness, which combines with a new herringbone traction element on the outsole for on-court feel. Fila says the outsole includes improved abrasion resistance for durability on multiple court surfaces.
A structured midsole support and midfoot TPU stabilizer aim to handle performance over extended periods of time. The Speedserve Energized also features a molded, breathable sock liner and slip-on construction.
“As the game of tennis continues to evolve, Fila is always looking for the best technology to help players perform at their best,” says Mark Eggert, senior vice-president of footwear design and advanced concepts at Fila North America. “Technology has really driven the shift in performance tennis gear. In addition to looking great, footwear needs to be exceptional. The comfort and feel of this shoe are what really stands out.”
The design of the shoe was meant for a responsive feel that allowed players to gain agility on the court while experiencing comfort out of the box.
Li says testing out a new tennis shoe always brings a balance of adjusting to how the new shoe fits and getting a feel for it on the court to ensure it has comfort and flexibility. “Fila has really focused on the fit of the new shoe,” she says, “and I am excited to continue wearing them throughout the 2022 season. I’ve been loving the new shoe.”
Players from juniors to professionals have been part of the shoe’s design process, working for more than two years to make adjustments on the silhouette. “We are thrilled to launch this new performance tennis shoe,” Eggert says. “It strikes a great balance between high-performance and style, which is what the Fila brand is all about. We plan to further build out the line with additional styles at new price points in the coming seasons.”
For the launch, the shoe will release for $130 in four colorways, an all-white, a white-blue-red, a bright yellow and a bright pink with yellow accents.
“Tennis has always been and will always be a key priority of the overall Fila brand,” Eggert says. “Fila has long been synonymous with the sport, and this shoe is the next iteration of our history and heritage.”
