FC Barcelona Set To Have A Huge New Financial Problem On July 1

FC Barcelona will have a huge extra financial burden from July 1 onwards unless they make player sales in the next couple of days, as highlighted by Que t’hi jugues.

June 30 is an important date as it is considered the end of the financial year. Barca are currently trying to sell first team stars including Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres if possible, but there has been a lack of concrete offers to entice the players and their club thus far.

While the Catalans really have until September 1 when the transfer window closes to offload those that are surplus to requirements for Xavi Hernandez, there are six unwanted figures whose departures are far more pressing.

This is because if they are not moved on by Friday, Barca’s wage bill will increase by an eyebrow-raising €55.6 million ($60.6 million) which will not help them navigate Financial Fair Play and bring in fresh faces.

The sum will become a burden because of the earnings of Samuel Umtiti (€20 million), Clement Lenglet (€16 million), Sergino Dest (€10.8 million), Nico Gonzalez (€4.5 million), Alex Collado (€2.7 million) and Gustavo Maia (€1.6 million) which make a combined €55.6 million.

The on-loan players will return to the club after June 30, but there is still hope that some of them will be moved on swiftly.

Umtiti is of course the biggest earner here, and has recently been plying his trade at Lecce. SPORT shared a report detailing how Barca have agreed a €4 million ($4.4 million) transfer with his boyhood club Lyon for the defender, but the Frenchman has become frustrated by what Barca have offered as a pay out in 2024 if he rescinds his contract according to Mundo Deportivo.

As for Lenglet, it once looked certain that Tottenham Hotspur would exercise the option to buy him permanently only to get cold feet according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer market expert reports that the north Londoners are weighing up other options and that Lenglet is “not a priority” for them at the moment.

AC Milan are also unlikely to trigger a €20 million ($22 million) option to buy Dest, but there could be more luck in selling Collado to Pedri’s former club Las Palmas.

Maia is on his way back to the reserve team known as Barca Atletic. But Nico Gonzalez, shipped off to Valencia last term, might take up a second consecutive loan assignment at Real Betis to continue gaining La Liga experience after Barca “opened the door” to him according to SPORT.

Once talked up as the natural heir to outgoing captain Sergio Busquets, Nico has not been able to nail down a place in Xavi’s first team plans after debuting with the manager’s predecessor Ronald Koeman.

Instead of trusting Nico, Barca are attempting to sign Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan to replace ‘Busi’ with the Croatian also receiving a big offer from Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
