FC Barcelona Serious About Signing Champions League Bogeyman

FC Barcelona is serious about signing a bogeyman from its recently failed Champions League campaign according to corners of the Italian media such as Gazzetta dello Sport, which was cited in a report by SPORT which relied on anonymous sources.

Denzel Dumfries had the game of his life in Montjuic, scoring two goals from right wing back as Inter and Barca drew a thrilling Champions League semifinal first leg 3-3 in the Catalan capital.

Less than a week later, he was again impressive as Barca came back from 2-0 down to lose what has been heralded as one of the greatest UCL last four ties of all time 4-3 after 120 minutes of high-octane European football.

The 7-6 aggregate loss denied Hansi Flick’s men the chance to reach the decider for the first time in 2015, which was when Luis Enrique’s talented side containing Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar beat Juventus 3-1 in Berlin and sealed an impressive treble.

Luis Enrique was also the architect of Paris Saint-Germain thrashing Inter 5-0 in another German city, Munich, and it wasn’t all doom and gloom for Barca given it scooped a Spanish treble of the La Liga title and both cups all at the expense of Real Madrid.

Still, given that Madrid has made numerous reinforcements to rule the country and the continent once more, Barca must bring in fresh faces to stay on top itself.

To that extent, it is reportedly interested signing Denzel Dumfries from the San Siro. Akin to Ronald Araujo, the Dutchman is available for a cut fee for the first 15 days of July, which we are of course already well into.

Unlike Araujo, however, who is available for a much more expensive $70 million (€60 million) across the mentioned timeframe, Dumfries can be picked up for what is an affordable $29 million (€25 million).

Reports about Barca’s interest in Dumfries seem to have come out of nowhere in the past few days, but it is serious about the potential coup according to the Italian media, and Inter knows about this to the extent that is already lining up a replacement.

FC Barcelona star Kounde could be rested with Dumfries around

Hardly missing a game in his adapted position of right back, usual central defender Jules Kounde could be given much-needed rests across the season with Dumfries around at FC Barcelona.
