FC Barcelona are ready to sell Eric Garcia and will listen to offers for the defender in Janaury, according to a report.
The Catalan returned to his boyhood club from Manchester City on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.
Immediately enjoying a prominent role in the plans of Ronald Koeman, Garcia also boasted protaganism in Xavi Hernandez’s first XI when the Dutchman was fired less than midway through the 2021/2022 season.
In 2022/2023, however, Garcia thought he would nail down a starting role on the back line when Gerard Pique announced his retirement in November.
On the contrary, Garcia has enjoyed less playing time than ever since returning from a disappointing World Cup for Spain in Qatar where Luis Enrique’s men were eliminated on penalties in the last 16 by underdogs and eventual semi-finalists Morocco.
Garcia has racked up a mere 29 minutes on the pitch since club football resumed in late December. Overlooked for important La Liga clashes against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid, the 22-year-old mustered less than half an hour against Intercity in the Copa Del Rey on Wednesday last week.
With the player’s future uncertain, SPORT has reported ahead of the Spanish Super Cup final that Barca are ready to listen to offers for the La Masia product who came through the famed academy with Ansu Fati.
The daily newspaper says that Garcia is also open to a move away from Camp Nou, which could come in the next fortnight before the current transfer window closes on January 31.
Garcia is unlikely to feature against Real Madrid in tomorrow’s final, with Xavi set to opt for a four man defense with Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen at its heart.
Garcia has had his plight made difficult by the arrive of the Dane in the summer when Kounde also joined from Sevilla.
Ronald Araujo has also returned to fitness and is in fine form, with both he and Kounde offering Xavi more versatility through their ability to effortlessly switch to right back when required.
