FC Barcelona Makes Decision On Signing Champions League Star

FC Barcelona has already made a decision on potentially signing one of the Champions League’s biggest stars last season according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

Denzel Dumfries had a career game in Montjuic against Barca, as his Inter Milan side drew 3-3 with Hansi Flick’s men in a UCL semifinal first leg tie.

Scoring two goals from wingback, the Dutchman was also impressive a week on as Inter came out 4-3 winners, and 7-6 victors overall, in the tie’s second installment at the San Siro which needed extra time after Barca memorably came back from 2-0 down in the first half.

It of course hurt Culers to be denied the chance to reach the final of the competition for the first time since 2015 when Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez were the main stars of a treble-winning outfit that topped Juventus 3-1 in the Berlin decider.

Yet it wasn’t all doom and gloom as Barca beat bitter rival Real Madrid in two cup finals and also pipped it to the league to scoop all three trophies on offer in Spain.

Heading into 2025/2026 on top of the domestic pile, Flick has needed to make few improvements to an already strong squad.

Joan Garcia has been signed to stop leaking goals to sides such as Inter, which netted seven against Barca but failed to put one past Paris Saint-Germain in a 5-0 UCL final loss.

For the left and right wings, to give Raphinha and Lamine Yamal a rest when required, Barca has also signed Marcu Rashford on loan while Roony Bardghji is a bet for the future.

Despite his strong performances against them, though, it was still a surprise to learn that Barca was reportedly in the hunt for Dumfries.

Until the end of July, the wideman can be picked up for what is an affordable $29 million (€25 million) for Barca and the same amount it handed over to trigger Garcia’s Espanyol release clause.

As we approach the end of said month, Flick and Barca have reportedly made a decision on whether to pursue Dumfries.

FC Barcelona has made a decision on Dumfries

Citing a report from transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, SPORT explains that FC Barcelona has decided not to sign Dumfries. This is because with the likes of Jules Kounde, Hector Fort and Eric Garcia already on the books, the right back position is already well-covered.
