Ousmane Dembele will leave FC Barcelona to sign for Paris Saint Germain as a free agent this summer, the club believes according to reports.
On Sunday against Real Madrid in El Clasico, the 24-year-old was once more outstanding on the right wing and racked up a pair of assists in the 4-0 win that has people talking about the Blaugrana as having returned from the abyss.
Predicting that the Frenchman could become the best in the world in his position when assuming the reins from Ronald Koeman, first team coach Xavi Hernandez took Dembele under his wing and has seen him produce no fewer than nine assists in 12 outings without ever having to return to the operating table with the kind of injuries that have plagued his time in Catalonia since arriving from Borussia Dortmund for $115mn in the summer of 2017.
Xavi had of course been advised by most fans and onlookers to force Dembele to watch the rest of the season from the stands after refusing to put pen to paper on a contract, with his current deal expiring on June 30.
Despite his upturn in form, however, and the astute man-management that has him in the form of his life, Dembele is still expected to turn his back on the club in just over three months from now and head home to his native France and its biggest club in PSG, Sport claim.
This will come despite Dembele allegedly telling anyone who will listen in the locker room that he wishes to stay put. “But business is business,” Sport say, “and it seems that his chances of continuity are slim, if not nil”.
Yet again, the player’s agent Moussa Sissoko is the villain here, pushing his client towards where ever he can get a nice slice of commission, with cash-strapped Barca having turned down his previous demands of “Neymar money” as per a new salary and a whopping $22mn signing-on fee.
Barca and their president Joan Laporta are adamant that their January offer to Dembele is final and that he knows where there are offices are if he wants to take it and truly stay at the club that is clearly going places.
Yet with PSG probably set to lose Kylian Mbappe and perhaps Neymar, there is a need for widemen at the Parc des Princes where Dembele can take top billing while he and his representative are enriched.
