FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich have reached an agreement for the transfer of Robert Lewandowski.
This has been claimed by Tomasz Wlodarczyk who said that the deal is now just a “matter of formalities” when writing for Polish website Meczyki.
Wlodarczyk claims that activities related to the transfer have “significantly accelerated since Thursday evening”, with Barca and Bayern “unofficially” reaching an agreement in principle that will be completed in the coming days.
On Friday afternoon, German media reported that a fourth offer from Barca for the 33-year-old would be forthcoming.
Meczyki say it will accepted, before the Bavarians sit down to talk with the Catalans to hash out the particulars and put pen to paper.
Lewandowski is set to sign a three-year contract at Camp Nou which will take him close to his 37th birthday. If a deal can get over the line by the close of the weekend, it is expected that the Poland captain will join the Blaugrana on their US preseason tour in order to play his first Clasico against Real Madrid in Las Vegas on July 24.
The Polish report does not offer figures on what Barca will pay for Lewandowski, but it is believed that the La Liga giants, currently mired in debts of $1.5bn, were prepared to go up to €50mn ($50.4mn) for the man who has averaged 50 goals in his last three seasons across all competitions for Bayern.
Receiving such a sum represents pure profit for the Germans, who paid nothing to acquire his services in 2013 when he joined them as a free agent from domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund.
Landing Lewandowski ends one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer for Barca as he has been their main target since the end of a trophyless last season for Xavi Hernandez’s men.
After acquiring Raphinha from Leeds United this week, Barca have had a successful few days on the market if they can also secure a striker widely regarded as the best of his generation.
As Financial Fair Play regulations must be navigated, however, it is unclear how the club plans to register Raphinha and Lewandowski too if his move comes to fruition.
