The adorable obstacle-royale game Fall Guys is going ‘free for all’ this June, developer Mediatonic and publisher Epic Games announced via a livestream.
The game, which went viral after landing on PlayStation Plus last year, is also headed to Nintendo Switch and Xbox.
This means Fall Guys will be available for free on PlayStation, PC via the Epic Game Store, Switch and Xbox and will support both cross-play and cross-progression across all these platforms.
Players on Steam will continue to get support but the game will no longer be available to download.
Here’s the trailer:
Launch Date and Season 1
The free-for-all version of Fall Guys will be new-and-improved as well, including faster load times and other performance upgrades for next-gen consoles.
The game is turning back the clock as well. Starting on June 21st, when Fall Guys lands on Nintendo Switch and Xbox consoles, a brand new Season 1 kicks off with all new challenges, stages and other content.
Season Pass
Season 1 will, of course, include a Season Pass which you can purchase for real money via Show-Bucks, the new in-game currency. Anyone who owns the game already will receive the first Season Pass free of charge.
The Season Pass includes 100 unlockable levels, including the ability to unlock Season 2’s pass if you reach max level. There will be a free progression path for players who don’t buy the Season Pass as well.
Legacy Pack
If you already own Fall Guys you not only get the first Season Pass for free, you also get the Legacy Pack.
This pack includes:
- A nickname
- A nameplate
- The Regal Costume Set
- The Veggie Dog Costume
- The Feisty Dwarf Costume
Pre-Registration Rewards
On top of all of this, you have a chance to unlock some other free rewards by pre-registering for updates before June 21st. The more people who sign up, the more rewards are unlocked (sort of like Kickstarter stretch goals).
These rewards include the Melonhead costume, the Burger Pattern and more. You can sign up here (be sure your email matches your Epic Account).
All told, this looks like a very meaty update for the game and it’s fun to see it reach new player-bases on Nintendo Switch and Xbox One / Xbox Series S|X. I admit, I haven’t played in a hot minute, but this gives me a reason to hop back in, especially since I’ll get the Season 1 Pass for free. I like free stuff.
Hopefully the free-to-play model will prove lucrative for Fall Guys.
