Ex co-CEO of crypto trading firm Alameda, Caroline Ellison is to be sentenced on Sept 24 in New York.
Ellison has been charged with two instances of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, among others. These charges have a maximum penalty of 110 years in prison but the punishment can be more relaxed for her, as she duly cooperated with prosecutors.
Ellison, who is also the ex-girlfriend of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried(SBF), was first found guilty in Dec 2022 after FTX crashed causing users to lose billions of dollars.
Ellison’s lawyer asked the judge to censor some details on her case that can potentially put her at risk.
“As the Court is aware, Ms. Ellison has been the focus of intense media scrutiny and Internet fascination since the outset of this case, including from Sam Bankman-Fried’s repeated efforts to release Ms. Ellison’s private information to the media,” Ellison’s lawyer said.
The lawyer added that Ms. Ellison’s friends should not be subject to harassment and doxing because they have written to the Court, Ms. Ellison seeks to censor their names and other identifying details from the publicly filed version of the letters and her sentencing memorandum.
Ellison’s lawyer also asked for details about her “living situation, partner and the organizations where she volunteers” to be redacted.
Apart from Ellison, former FTX executives, Gary Wang and Nishad Singh, were also charged but, they too, have cooperated with prosecutors. Wang will be sentenced on November 20, while Singh will be sentenced on October 30.
