‘Everything, Everywhere’ Falls Just 6% To Top $47 Million

In holdover news for the weekend that isn’t about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (-67% for a $61 million domestic and $142 million worldwide weekend for a new $292 million/$688 million cume), DreamWorks Animation’s The Bad Guys earned another $6.9 million (-28%) in weekend four for a new $66.3 million domestic and $166 million global cume. The film debuted on PVOD this past Friday. The $80 million toon should end its run with around $80 million domestic and (give or take any overseas markets that have yet to open) $195 million worldwide.

Paramount and Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2 earned another $4.55 million domestic (-24%) and $5.3 million overseas for a new $175.7 million domestic and $363 million global cume. Among video game movies, that puts it behind only Uncharted ($395 million), Rampage ($428 million), Detective Pikachu ($433 million) and Warcraft ($438 million). Its $176 million domestic cume is bigger than any video game flick and is second only to Tomb Raider ($131 million in 2001/$212 million adjusted) when accounting for inflation. So, yes, it’s a big hit and we’re almost certainly getting Sonic 3.

A24’s Everything, Everywhere All at Once earned another $3.3 million (-6%) with another Greatest Showman/Sixth Sense-worthy hold at the domestic box office. The Daniels’ acclaimed and buzzy multiverse fantasy actioner has earned $47.1 million. By next weekend, or soon after, it’ll pass Lady Bird ($49 million) and Uncut Gems ($50 million) to become A24’s biggest domestic earner ever. By the weekend after that, it’ll pass House of Gucci ($52 million) to top every 2021 Oscar season release save for Dune ($108 million). If it can hold onto screens, it might just top $60 million by the end.

Warner Bros.’ Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore earned $2.42 million (-43%) for a $90 million 31-day domestic cume. The $200 million prequel threequel has earned $373 million worldwide, which is about as harshly as it would have dropped from The Crimes of Grindelwald ($659 million in 2018) even sans Covid and related variables. The Lost City arrived on EST and on Paramount+, and yet held firm. The Sandra Bullock/Channing Tatum rom-com actioner earned $1.73 million (-37%) for a new $97.15 million domestic and $170 million worldwide cume. It should pass $100 million domestic by the end.
