Delightful bilingual comedy Acapulco returns to Apple TV+ for its second season. The streamer announced the global hit comedy series, renewed earlier this year and which stars and is executive produced by SAG award-winning actor Eugenio Derbez, will premiere on Friday, October 21, 2022 – a year after it debuted on the platform.
Picking up where it left off in the inaugural season, young Máximo Gallardo (Enrique Arrizón), who landed his dream job as a cabana boy at Las Colinas in the mid-80’s, now must contend with upheaval at the hottest resort in Acapulco. He’s also facing unexpected problems at home and a new love interest just might compete with the girl of his dreams, his co-worker Julia (Camila Pérez).
But it seems like this may be just the turning point in his career. Under the guidance of his mentor Don Pablo (Damián Alcázar), who is the resort’s head of operations, Máximo sets his eyes on one day running Las Colinas operation by becoming the owner’s right-hand man.
Flashing forward to the present day, older Máximo (Derbez) returns to Acapulco to make peace with the recent passing of Don Pablo and is forced to confront some unfinished business from his youth.
Joining Derbez, Arrizón, Alcázar and Pérez in the 10-episode second season are returning stars Fernando Carsa (“Memo”), Chord Overstreet (“Chad”), Vanessa Bauche (“Nora”), Regina Reynoso (“Sara”), Raphael Alejandro (“Hugo”), Jessica Collins (“Diane”), Rafael Cebrián (“Hector”) and Carlos Corona (“Esteban”).
Acapulco is produced for Apple by Lionsgate Television, 3Pas Studios, Zihuatanejo Productions and The Tannenbaum Company. The series is created by Austin Winsberg, Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman. Chris Harris serves as showrunner. Winsberg, Cisneros, Shuman and Harris also serve as executive producers on the project. Jay Karas serves as an executive producer and director. In addition to starring, Derbez serves as executive producer alongside Ben Odell and co-executive producer Sonia Gambaro on behalf of 3Pas Studios.
