Ernest Cline Believes Metaverse is The Next Version of Everything

Co-founders of recently created Readyverse Studios came together in a conversation they shared on video sharing and social media platform YouTube. In an announcement last week, the co-founders revealed they are bringing the concept to life by leveraging technologies including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), web3, and more.

Bringing Ready Player One to Life, Again

Movie producer Dan Farah tells the origin story for the Readyverse. He collaborated with the Ready Player One author Ernest Cline while he was still finishing up the book. The conversation included discussions about how the metaverse can affect the internet, video games, and more but the necessary technologies were not available at the time. Initially, the mission was to bring the novel out successfully followed by a movie.

They met the FutureVerse team later who shared the same vision. Ernest Cline shared how his novel was the result of his desire to write about a video game he always wanted to play as there weren’t any during his childhood except for those casual games. In context to the metaverse, he envisioned it similar to a “new country” without borders where everyone will be a part of it.

Moreover, he believes the metaverse goes beyond the title of ‘the next iteration of the internet.’ He says, “It’s not just the next version of the internet, it’s also the next version of video games, and the next version of everything that we do digitally. It’s what I imagined Tron being when I saw the movie in 1982.”

“The Internet we are trying to change doesn’t give ownership to the users and communities that exist inside of that,” says FutureVerse CEO Aaron McDonald while emphasizing over putting control back to the users. “I think more important thing for a society that becomes more digital and we have more things that we value are in the digital space. Even the process that affects our physical world happens in digital spaces or affected by digital processes ownership becomes extremely important.”

Many see the metaverse as an open space where users control data rather than centralized companies. While that sounds like Web3, it should be noted that both are pivotal for the concept discussed in the video. Also, both the terms are often used interchangeably, however, both are distinct.

The Readyverse team also collaborated with Warner Bros Discovery to bring the concept to the real world. Apart from the novel, Ready Player One has been turned into a movie of the same name directed by veteran film director Steven Spielberg. To this date, the film has done business of over $600 Million worldwide.

Dan has also hinted that Readyverse may provide “opportunities for Hollywood studios, talent, and brands to create new revenue streams and creative outlets for brand expansion.” However, no further details are available regarding this.
