Fortnite Chapter 4, Season 1 is about to call it quits and Season 2 is almost upon us. While there’s lots of new content to look forward to and plenty of reasons to be excited, PC players might want to make sure their rigs are up-to-date.
Specifically, Epic Games has issued a warning to PC players that the system requirements for the game are about to change, requiring a beefier and newer system to play.
Windows 7 and 8, which have previously been supported platforms for Fortnite, are being retired. Players on these systems will no longer be able to play Fortnite without a work-around, though that work-around isn’t too difficult as you can still use GeForce NOW in order to play the game on any system.
Direct X 12 is now also a minimum requirement. Here are the updated minimum and recommended specs for PC players beginning in Season 2:
New minimum PC specifications
GPU:
- NVIDIA: Maxwell-generation cards or newer
- AMD: GCN-generation cards or newer
- Latest graphics drivers
Operating system:
- Windows 10 version 1909.1350 or newer, with support for DirectX 12 Agility SDK
- Windows 11
Direct X version:
New recommended PC specifications
GPU:
- NVIDIA: GeForce RTX 2080 or newer
- AMD: Radeon RX 5700 or newer
- Latest graphics drivers
Operating system:
- Latest Windows 10 version, with support for DirectX 12 Agility SDK
- Latest Windows 11 version
Direct X version:
Season 2 kicks off on March 10th.
