An Epic Games spokesperson confirmed that all multiplayer games on the Epic Games Store require cross-play across all PC game storefronts. According to the spokesperson, cross-play ensures players can enjoy multiplayer games with their friends and family after purchasing games.
The spokesperson added that developers, including Epic Online Services, can choose which services help them meet the requirement. The statement advised developers that Epic Online Services could require secondary installation to enable cross-platform invites, friends lists, and more on PC.
The confirmation didn’t specify any of the multiplayer games on the Epic Games Store. However, speculation is that the requirements were general and covered all games, including the recently released Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.
The confirmation comes after previous discourse in the gaming community about Epic Online Services installation in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Focus Entertainment had previously explained that as the game launched on Steam, accepting its EULA installed an Epic Online Services client.
Focus Entertainment further outlined that the implementation allowed optional cross-play for Warhammer 40,000 between Steam and Epic Games. The optional feature ensures that gamers don’t have to link their Steam accounts to the Epic Games Store.
Reddit discussion explains the Epic Games Services installation
After Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’s early access launch, there was a review-bombing due to players’ dissatisfaction with Epic Online Services’ stealth installation. The sentiments led to reviewers leaving negative comments about the game on Steam. The negative reviews changed the game’s overall rating on the PC storefront from ‘Mixed’ to ‘Very Positive.’
Gamers were also worried about their privacy due to Saber Interactive’s lengthy End User License Agreement (EULA). A Reddit post discussed the Saber EULA, which many were skeptical about because it demanded personal information.
However, one Redditor confirmed that the EULA and collecting gamer information, such as name, age, location, and ID number, only applied to specific countries where gamers’ government identity was tied to their online access. The Reddit thread revealed that most gamers had not read the EULA at all.

Focus Entertainment plans to release the first major patch for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. The company announced the patch earlier in the week, aiming to fix the issues reported by multiple players. Focus promised gamers that it would find a solution to fix the issues.
The update will resolve ultra-wide support for Warhammer 40,000, introduce private PVE lobbies, and expand the sparring area. Focus also promised server improvements with the first patch update.
Before the first major patch, the company posted a hotfix for some issues, including game crashes, controllers not working, and connectivity. The hotfix also included a fix for PC CPU behavior optimization for high-end CPUs.
In the announcement, Focus also appreciated the milestone Warhammer 40,000 reached by 2 million players. The company appreciated the players’ support for the game. Focus further assured gamers that the company read all feedback ‘with great attention.’
