- Recently, Tesla has come to light due to the recent expansion of the probe by NHTSA.
- As of the time of writing, Tesla’s stock is striding at a price of 696 USD.
Before discussing anything, note that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) is an agency responsible for handling all the matters regarding transportation.
Now, when we talk about transportation regulations, Tesla always comes to mind.
Tesla, a multi-billion-dollar company (735 Billion Dollars Market capitalization) is known for its persona of building futuristic technology and integrating it into electric vehicles.
Some of the projects launched by Tesla are:
- Model X
- Roadster
- Model S
- Model Y
- Cybertruck
- Model E
What’s The Questioning All About?
Even after the electric vehicular part, they are building what is known as a fully-autonomous system of transportation.
But recently, Tesla has come to light due to the recent expansion of the probe by NHTSA. Earlier they were examining the total number of around 740,000 Tesla cars. But now, due to the guidelinesprovided/issued by the Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, they have decided to go for 830,000 cars.
This makes a total of 11% increase across all the model lines as mentioned above by NHTSA.
The reason behind this in-depth investigation of Tesla’s autonomous system is that the company is developing a technology that no other corporation has developed before. This means that there are a lot of software drawbacks and methodological dangers that humanity has never witnessed before, and it is important to look after them.

The Tension Between NHTSA and Tesla
The NHTSA told the press that they want to “explore the degree to which Autopilot and associated Tesla systems may exacerbate human factors or behavioral safety risks by undermining the effectiveness of the driver’s supervision.”
The important thing to note is that the Tesla updates are run through the software that is already present in the car. This means that the customer doesn’t need to go to a Tesla showroom to update their cars. After all, the system is entirely cloud-based.
According to the reports by the NHTSA, the Tesla auto-drive feature is designed in such a way, that it gives back the control to the drivers to handle the car manually just a few seconds before an accident is going to occur.
Although, this may create a huge distrust in the company from a consumer standpoint, it will be a very difficult lawsuit to win against Tesla as Musk claims that the company cannot be liable for the accident as the data figures are showing that Tesla’s auto-drive feature was not active at the time of the accident.
