Rafael Amaya and his hit superseries El Señor de los Cielos will return for a ninth season, actors William Levy and Fernando Colunga join the star roster, and Wilmer Valderrama, Daddy Yankee and J Balvin sign content partnership deals for Telemundo’s 2023-24 programming slate.
Ahead of next week’s upfronts in New York, billing itself as a “content powerhouse,” NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises today offered a peak at the lineup for next season across its linear and streaming platforms, with new scripted originals and expansion of reality programming, in addition to news and sports.
In its preview announcement, the company also revealed it was partnering with Turkey’s Inter Medya studios for the first time on Atrapada en la Jaula Azul. Additionally, Telemundo’s Tplus brand signed an exclusive first look deal with Wilmer Valderrama’s WV Entertainment. Led by WVE’s SVP of Production & Development Jessica Acevedo, this partnership will bring Hispanic-led TV projects to SVOD services for Hispanic audiences around the world. Tplus will also launch a sports-focused channel, Telemundo Deportes Ahora.
“Latinos continue to fuel the demographic and economic growth engine of our country as one of the most important opportunities for business in America,” said Beau Ferrari, Chairman, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. “We are excited to present a robust content offering across entertainment, news and sports featuring premium properties, the biggest stars and tentpoles designed to reach and engage the full spectrum of Latinos at scale, in both languages and across all platforms.”
Having Telemundo and its Latino-oriented content as part of the NBCU universe, acknowledge top execs, is an added advantage.
“When you combine the power of Telemundo’s content with the massive reach of Comcast NBCUniversal’s One Platform, you have the most complete and effective way to engage this essential audience,” said Linda Yaccarino, Chairman, Global Advertising and Partnerships, NBCUniversal. And that, she says, gives marketers “everything they need—all in one place—to tap into Latinos’ $1.8 trillion purchasing power, in English and Spanish.”
