Topline
Officials in the Netherlands have seized 14 yachts owned by Russia, the country’s foreign minister Wopke Hoekstra disclosed on Wednesday, making them the latest assets with possible links to Russian oligarchs that have been seized in Europe as the EU prepares to tighten sanctions against Russia.
Key Facts
In a letter to the Dutch parliament, Hoekstra said that no Russian-owned superyachts (larger than 35 meters in length) were currently anchored in the Netherlands, but several of them are being built or serviced in the country.
The seized assets include 12 superyachts currently under construction at five separate shipyards and two undergoing scheduled maintenance linked to Russian owners.
The shipyards have been made aware that the final deliveries of these yachts are blocked while the ownership structures of these yachts are being investigated.
This is a developing story.
