Marvel made a big deal out of rolling out a number of chairs in a weird video that revealed the cast of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, indicating which heroes would or would not appear in that film.
Now, a second list is being reported ahead of rumors that more cast members will be revealed soon. It’s from supposed insider Jeff Sneider and it’s just…utterly ridiculous.
To start, we can remind ourselves of the officially revealed list from Marvel, which is mainly straggling Avengers, Thunderbolts and FOX X-Men:
- Chris Hemsworth (Thor)
- Anthony Mackie (Captain America)
- Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm)
- Paul Rudd (Ant-Man)
- Florence Pugh (Yelena)
- Tenoch Huerta (Namor)
- Simu Liu (Shang-Chi)
- Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes)
- Letitia Wright (Black Panther)
- Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Thing)
- Kelsey Grammer (Beast).
- Lewis Pullman (Sentry)
- Danny Ramirez (Joaquín Torres / Falcon)
- Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm)
- David Harbour (Red Guardian)
- Winston Duke (M’Baku)
- Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost)
- Tom Hiddleston (Loki)
- Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier / Professor X)
- Ian McKellen (Magneto)
- Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler)
- Rebecca Romijn (Mystique)
- James Marsden (Cyclops)
- Channing Tatum (Gambit)
- Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom)
It’s an Avengers movie, so it’s obviously a huge cast, 25 characters in all. Obviously it stands to reason that they are hiding a few guest appearances or perhaps some wholly new characters, but still, giant list.
The idea that the Doomsday list could get even bigger to a significant degree, the way this second list suggests, makes no sense. Ready for this second list? Well, it features pretty much every single character that still exists in the MCU minus those others:
- Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner)
- Benedict Wong (Wong)
- Brie Larson (Carol Danvers)
- Don Cheadle (James Rhodes)
- Karen Gillan (Nebula)
- Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton)
- Iman Vellani (Kamala Khan)
- Danai Gurira (Okoye)
- Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie)
- Ke Huy Quan (Ouroboros)
- Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau)
- Will Poulter (Adam Warlock)
- Dominique Thorne (Riri Williams)
- Xochitl Gomez (America Chavez)
- Sophia Di Martino (Sylvie)
- Tatiana Maslany (She-Hulk)
- Yahya Abdul-Mateen (Wonder Man)
- Kathryn Newton (Cassie Lang)
- Wunmi Mosaku (B-15)
- Lashana Lynch (Maria Rambeau)
- Famke Janssen (Jean Grey)
- Halle Berry (Storm)
- Kai Zen (Phyla – GotG3)
- Owen Wilson (Mobius)
- Chris Pratt (Peter Quill)
- Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury)
- Charlize Theron (Clea)
- Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange)
- Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter)
- Chris Evans (Steve Rogers)
- Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon)
- Vin Diesel (Groot)
- Maria Bakalova (Cosmo)
That is 33(!) new characters added to the original list of 25, making for a grand total of 58 characters that would appear in a movie that cannot be longer than three hours. And yes, this is reportedly just for Doomsday, not Secret Wars as well. Additions here are more FOX X-Men, the entire Guardians of the Galaxy cast, bigger names like Doctor Strange, Hulk and Hawkeye, what appears to be half the supporting characters of Loki, all of The Marvels and more. We’re missing who? Maybe a handful of characters from MCU TV shows, at best. Oh, and Spider-Man, funnily enough, who even with 58 character is still not showing up.
Again, it’s an Avengers movie, and we had a lot of characters in something like Avengers: Endgame, right? Let’s check back on that list. I won’t do another lengthy line-up list here, but the end result is that there are 28 characters in Endgame, and we’re even including people like Happy Hogan or the Peggy Carter cameo in that. The idea there would be more than double that in Doomsday, bringing in 90% of the existing MCU is not going to happen, sorry. So if you see this, don’t believe it.
