President Donald Trump has announced a historic $500 billion investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in collaboration with OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank. The initiative, named Stargate, aims to create advanced infrastructure necessary for the rapid development of AI technologies in the United States.
The announcement was made at the White House, where Donald Trump was joined by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, and Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison. Trump called Stargate the “largest AI infrastructure project in history,” emphasizing its potential to secure America’s leadership in AI innovation while creating over 100,000 jobs nationwide.
Stargate’s Mission: Building AI Infrastructure
The Stargate project will be about building physical and digital infrastructure to support the development of AI. This entails establishing high-quality data centers, enhancing the capacity of semiconductors, and enhancing the availability of energy and water required for AI systems.
The initial phase of the project is expected to cost the government $100 billion, and it aims to raise the total funding to $500 billion in the next four years. The first phase of the 1-million-square-foot data center is already being built in Texas, said Oracle’s Chairman Larry Ellison. Plans are afoot to provide similar facilities in other states in the future.
AI Leaders Emphasize Strategic Importance
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman noted that this project is crucial, “We need the best AI infrastructure in the world to lead in technology and capabilities.” Altman has been calling for U.S. funding on AI infrastructure to keep ahead of other countries such as China.
SoftBank will handle the financial side of the partnership with Stargate and OpenAI will handle the operational side. It will also use its experience as one of the largest owners of US data center space. The Stargate is also a collaborative project with MGX, a UAE based technology company and the company will also provide funding for this project.

It comes at a time where organizations are in much need of strong AI support since the use of artificial intelligence is rapidly increasing. The collaboration will work towards enhancing the US’s standing in the global AI ecosystem alongside making sure that the nation is secure in the area.
The initiative is also viewed as a reaction to the issues highlighted by the AI leaders, who claimed that lack of infrastructure may slow down the development of AI. OpenAI made this clear in a recent white paper where it pointed out that there is no foundational strategy to support infrastructure for AI in the U.S and the funds are likely to end up being used for China’s projects.
Economic and Job Creation Potential under Donald Trump
The Stargate project is estimated to bring enormous economic returns such as employment opportunities for more than 100,000 people in different industries. It is estimated that these roles will cover from data center operations to semiconductor manufacturing, in order to show the extensive effect of the investment on AI infrastructure.
The decision comes after Trump recently rescinded an executive order signed by Biden regarding the management of risks associated with AI, indicating the current administration’s increased focus on AI advancement. In a statement, Oracle pointed out that Stargate will not only contribute to the revitalization of American manufacturing but also give the United States an edge in the race to develop artificial intelligence.
