Dolly Parton Reaches A New Billboard Chart 55 Years After Her Debut

Even after all these years, Dolly Parton remains an American treasure and a favorite of millions. She’s been entertaining audiences for decades, and there’s no sign of her slowing down. This week, the singer-songwriter achieves a new milestone as she lands on a Billboard chart she’s never reached before. This achievement is noteworthy considering the fact that she first appeared on one of the company’s rankings more than half a century ago.

Parton’s new single, titled “World on Fire,” debuts at No. 13 on this week’s Rock Digital Song Sales chart. This ranking lists the bestselling rock tunes in the United States each frame, and it’s typically reserved for rising rock bands and longtime legends of the genre.

The Grammy winner’s venture into rock music doesn’t come as a complete surprise. After being inducted into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, the iconic singer-songwriter announced her plan to produce a rock album titled Rockstar. At the time, she commented of the honor, “If I’m gonna be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I’m gonna have to earn it.”

During the recent 2023 Academy of Country Music Awards, where Parton served as a co-host, she treated the audience to the inaugural performance of “World on Fire.” This live rendition likely played a significant role in propelling the song to make its mark on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart.

Parton’s entry on this chart is one of a handful of arrivals, and she shares this moment with other returning favorites such as U2, Alanis Morissette, and AC/DC, among others. Late singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot owns the tally, as fans have been buying his biggest hits following his May 1 passing. This frame, he controls the highest three spaces on the list.

Although she is primarily known for her contributions to the country genre, Parton has consistently showcased versatility over the course of her career. In recent years, she has been busy diversifying her musical output. She has semi-recently earned wins on dance and electronic charts, as well as Christian tallies.
