Dolly Parton May Be Headed For Her First No. 1 Album

On November 17, Dolly Parton released her new album Rockstar. As its title suggests, the effort is decidedly rock in sound and feel, and marks the legend’s first proper foray into the genre. Now, it seems she’s headed for a healthy start on the Billboard charts, and she might even be on her way to her first No. 1 album.

Music industry publication HitsDailyDouble predicts that Rockstar will open at No. 1 on the charts next week. The outlet’s suggestion isn’t specifically focused on the Billboard rankings, as the two are separate from one another, but what tops the HDD lists almost always hits the top spot on the Billboard 200, the chart company’s namesake main albums roster.

HitsDailyDouble claims that based on the first few days of consumption activity, Rockstar could arrive with 140,000 equivalent units shifted. That sum will be largely comprised of pure sales, as Rockstar could sell more than 130,000 copies, with streaming and the purchases of individual tunes featured on the album making up the rest.

If Rockstar does debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, it will mark Parton’s first leader on the all-encompassing tally of the most-consumed albums in the U.S. While she has been a superstar for decades, the country singer-songwriter has somehow never reached the highest rung on the most important albums chart.

Parton has actually only ever charted a pair of top 10 titles on the Billboard 200. That’s a small sum, considering she’s pushed nearly 50 different releases to the chart. Both Trio with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris as well as her own Blue Smoke both stalled at No. 6 on the tally.

Billboard should announce how well Rockstar performed this coming Sunday, November 26.
