Doja Cat and Don Toliver team up on “Lose My Mind,” the lead single from F1: The Album, which could … More
For several weeks now, Doja Cat has been teasing a new album titled Vie. The set will mark her return following 2023’s Scarlet, which was reissued as Scarlet 2 Claude in April 2024. Before she delivers another full-length, the singer and rapper has joined hip-hop and pop musician Don Toliver on the track “Lose My Mind” — a cut that may not just be another hit for her, but a very special awards contender.
“Lose My Mind” Leads the F1 Soundtrack
“Lose My Mind” is the first single taken from F1: The Album. The soundtrack will accompany the movie F1, a Brad Pitt action vehicle set to arrive in late June. The full-length follows in the wake of fellow Atlantic Records projects connected to blockbusters like Barbie and Twisters. It gathers many of today’s biggest stars to create original tunes for what is sure to be one of the most commercially successful movies of the year.
Earning the debut single placement is a major coup for both Toliver and Doja, and “Lose My Mind” stands a good chance of becoming a serious hit on the Billboard charts. The tune will likely debut on a number of tallies in a few days when the company refreshes its rankings. If it continues to be promoted properly, it may rise, and it could even become a real summer smash.
“Lose My Mind” is reportedly featured in a major scene in F1, according to a representative from Atlantic Records. The tune is also wholly original, written entirely by Toliver, Doja Cat, Grant Boutin, hitmaker Ryan Tedder, and composer and musical superstar Hans Zimmer. Those details are crucial to the future of the cut.
An Academy Award Contender
While it’s still early in the calendar, “Lose My Mind” could be a real contender for a Best Original Song nomination at the upcoming 2026 Academy Awards. The F1 soundtrack is sure to produce a number of possible nominees, but the one that will likely receive the most attention is the first to hit the ears of audiences around the world. “Lose My Mind” has a significant advantage by arriving before any other tune.
Depending on how both the film is received and how the track is used in the project, the musicians — as well as the collaborators, who are already successful in their own right — could be headed for an Oscar nomination. “Lose My Mind” may help Doja – who performed at the most recent ceremony in a tribute to the music of James Bond – score the Academy Award nod some felt she was due a few years back.
Doja Cat’s Last Oscar Attempt Was Disqualified
Doja previously contributed the song “Vegas” to the Elvis soundtrack, which was commercially successful and the biggest hit from the bunch. The movie itself earned a number of Oscar nods, but Best Original Song was not among its roundup.
Sadly, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences deemed “Vegas” ineligible for contention for an Academy Award, as it was built around an interpolation of one of Presley’s most famous tunes, “Hound Dog.” Since the category is Best Original Song, every piece of a composition must be new and created specifically for the film, so “Vegas” was ruled out. Had those specific rules not been in place, the single would have had a real shot at making Doja an Oscar nominee.
After becoming a musical superstar and winning a Grammy, many artists look to the film world for greater commercial success and to broaden their appeal… and many are also eyeing a new kind of award. A number of superstars in recent years have earned Best Original Song nods and even wins, including Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Billie Eilish, who has now claimed the prize twice.
