Throughout her rise to superstardom, Doja Cat has succeeded on many genre-specific Billboard charts. She’s seen her songs reach rankings focused on music that can be classified as pop, rap, hip-hop, R&B and even Latin, and now she can add to that ever-expanding list with her latest single.
Cat’s new track “Celebrity Skin” debuts on a number of Billboard charts this week now that it’s first full tracking frame has passed, and it helps the woman behind the cover of one of Hole’s biggest singles reach previously unknown territory.
The main Billboard ranking that deals with tracks that are in any way labeled as rock is the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, and Cat doesn’t just land her first win, she scores the most impressive start of the week. “Celebrity Skin” launches at No. 18, earning the highest debut this frame.
Over on the Hot Alternative Songs chart, the tune fares a little bit better, but that’s not entirely shocking. The ranking is a slightly more specific list that typically features only those tunes classified as alternative. It’s not uncommon for most, if not all of the 25 titles present on the Hot Alternative Songs roster to also find space on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart as well. “Celebrity Skin” arrives at No. 16 on the alt-only tally.
While “Celebrity Skin” didn’t sell well enough in its debut frame to appear on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart, it does break onto the Alternative Digital Song Sales ranking, which lists exactly what it’s name suggests. Cat’s new track starts off at No. 21 on the 25-spot tally, scoring the third-highest launch of the frame (out of four new arrivals).
Cat recorded her take on the Hole single for a Taco Bell commercial that aired during the 2022 Super Bowl. The tune immediately began picking up attention on streaming platforms, digital storefronts and on social media, which led to its current success on several Billboard charts.
Initially released in 1998 as a single from the album of the same name, Hole’s “Celebrity Skin” has reached a number of Billboard charts throughout the years, but funny enough, Cat’s rendition beats it to a handful of lists. While the original peaked at No. 12 on the Alternative Digital Song Sales ranking, beating the new edition, it never placed on either the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs or Hot Alternative Songs tallies. That is almost surely because those rosters were introduced after the cut’s heyday.
