Dogecoin recently announced its plans to send a physical DOGE token to the moon. The crypto has joined hands with Astrobotic, a Pittsburgh-based firm, for the same.
Astrobotic is running a payload mission on December 23. According to the latest update by Dogecoin, the project will carry a physical DOGE token to Earth’s moon. The announcement was made on the official X/Twitter account of Dogecoin.
The tweet read that Astrobotic will be launching ULA’s Vulcan Centaur Rocket to the DHL Moonbox. The Dogecoin community funded the project back in 2015, showcasing its collaborative effort.
Seeing how DOGE is literally going to the moon, the token sparked interest among many traders. Many new users even looked for a Dogecoin prediction to learn more about the original memecoin.
As for Astrobotic, the company’s PM1 (Peregrine Mission One) is set to carry 21 cargos from universities, companies, and governments to the moon. Above all, the cargo will include NASA’s CLPS (Commerical Lunar Payload Services) initiative.
Bitcoin is not far behind Dogecoin, as a physical BTC is also set to reach the moon in the upcoming years. BitMEX, the well-known crypto exchange, announced the project back in May. Besides this, the project will include a copy of the Genesis Block, which contains the first BTC block ever to be mined.
This is not DOGE’s first rodeo with the moon, as the token originally planned to leave Earth’s orbit in 2022. Commissioned by Geometric Energy Corporation, the mission was set to be conducted for SpaceX. It was supposed to be the first commercial lunar payload mission in history.
However, the mission was pushed and is currently set to be conducted in January 2024. But DOGE is not waiting until January to become the first physical crypto to reach the moon. Astrobotic is set to etch its name in the books to literally carry the first crypto to the moon.
