Disney May Work With ‘Kind And Respectful’ Gina Carano Again After New Settlement

Well, there’s really no way to spin this, Disney appears to have not exactly proven its case in a recent lawsuit over a fired actress. In an Elon Musk-funded lawsuit alleging that ex-MMA star and actress Gina Carano was fired from The Mandalorian for social media posts without cause, a settlement has been reached and implications are that it went in Carano’s favor.

Carano posted at one point that hating conservative for political views was akin to what Nazis had done in Germany with Jews, and also relayed such views as being anti-mask and believing Donald Trump in saying there was fraud in the 2020 election. She also was accused of transphobic comments, mocking gender pronouns at one point.

But her case here was that there was nothing in her contract that would have allowed her to be fired for such personal views or statements, and she claimed other cast members were not similarly targeted for similar, liberal statements, like Mandalorian Pedro Pascal comparing Trump to Hitler back in 2017.

Now? The statements in the wake of the settlement are effusive on both sides. Here’s an excerpt from Carano:

“I have come to an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm @disney @Lucasfilm which I believe is the best outcome for all parties involved. I hope this brings some healing to the force. I am humbled and grateful to God for His love and grace in this outcome.

I’d like to thank you all for your unrelenting support throughout my life and career, you’ve been the heartbeat that has kept my story alive. I hope to make you proud. I am excited to flip the page and move onto the next chapter. My desires remain in the arts, which is where I hope you will join me. ♥️ Yes, I’m smiling.”

And the glowing Disney statement:

“The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies.”

“Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect.”

“With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”

That last bit is key, because previously, Carano was not just asking for damages, but also to be re-hired on The Mandalorian. And Disney now says they want to “work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.” That would likely not be her reprising her role in The Mandalorian, a show that may end with its already-filmed theatrical movie, but elsewhere? Who knows? MCU Gina Carano? Actually wait, she was already in Deadpool.

A settlement for a lawsuit and the court of public opinion are two different things, however, and liberal audiences would be likely react poorly to Disney working with the actress again, something that would be out of the control of either party. Everyone is very curious to see what the end result of this will be, and if Carano really will return to the Disney fold. But everything seems to have gone her way here.
