Desmond Bane Traded To Orlando Magic For Multiple First Round Picks

The Memphis Grizzlies and the Orlando Magic have ignited the NBA world with a huge trade that will have a lasting impact on both franchises. Memphis traded Desmond Bane to Orlando for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four unprotected first round picks, and one first round pick swap according to Shams Charania.

This move signifies that Orlando was prepared to cash in on their core of wing duo Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero by giving them a player who can make their lives on the court easier. Last season Bane averaged 19.3 points per game, and 5.3 assists per game, while shooting 39 percent from three on 6 attempts per game with a 60 percent true shooting percentage. Orlando always finds themselves having a sluggish offense because they don’t have a true guard creator, but with this trade they addressed an issue that has plagued them for many years. Not only can Bane initiate offense for them, but he also fits like a glove off the ball, as he shot 42 percent on catch and shoot threes last season as well. Bane will also contribute to Orlando on the defensive end as well, and he will ensure that Orlando remains a top defense in the league while also filling in crucial holes on their offense. The price for Bane may be a bit heavy, but in the long run they’re getting a fairly young player who fits every one of their needs.

From Memphis’ perspective they were able to cash in at a pretty great price for one of their core players, and it also offers them some flexibility from a future asset standpoint. They can continue to move forward with Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr, but they also added multiple assets that can be used if they want to make some trades on the margin in the future. This move also opens up more time and opportunities on the floor for their younger players such as Jaylen Wells or GG Jackson. With Jackson Jr being due for a huge contract extension soon, trading Bane also makes it so you don’t have such large money tied up moving forward.
