Frenkie de Jong, Marco Verratti and Bernardo Silva could all switch teams in three separate domino effect transfers involving their clubs FC Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City.
This has been reported by Jijantes FC’s Gerard Romero, who has proven himself to be a leading voice in transfer market activity this summer while on the money with regards to moves for Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde to Barca.
According to Romero, there is a rumor among the representatives of the first three mentioned players that they could all change employers in the coming weeks.
Put simply, this entails De Jong joining PSG, Verratti heading to Manchester City, and Silva donning Blaugrana at Camp Nou.
De Jong was previously a top target for PSG in the summer of 2019 when impressing for Ajax in the Champions League as the Amsterdam outfit made an unlikely run to the competition’s semi-finals.
With City also in the race for his capture then, Barca ended up pipping both new-money outfits to the 25-year-old as part of a €75mn ($76.4mn) deal.
Three years later, however, the Catalans are now looking to move the Dutchman on with the lead interested parties until now Manchester United and Chelsea.
De Jong has turned United down due to their lack of Champions League football, but PSG could offer him this as well as a chance to link up with his former Barca teammate Lionel Messi.
With De Jong then gone, Barca would have his monstrous wages off the payroll and could make an approach for Silva who is first team coach Xavi Hernandez’s last remaining transfer target.
City would then be short a midfielder, but De Jong’s arrival at the Parc des Princes would facilitate an exit for Verratti who Barca also came close to signing in 2017 when PSG shattered the world transfer record for Neymar.
As the current window remains open until September 1, there is still plenty of time for these moves to unravel.
Yet with Barca struggling to register five new players for their La Liga campaign which gets underway on August 13 against Rayo Vallecano, they want De Jong’s future resolved next week.
