For years now, South Korean boy band Day6 has demonstrated that they rank among the most popular vocal acts in the Asian nation, as all of their releases have sold well and the band has even launched a sub-unit that’s succeeded as well. Now, one of the members has also achieved something incredible, and this time, he’s done so all on his own.
Day6 member Wonpil debuts his new release Pilmography at No. 1 on the Gaon Albums chart, which every week ranks the bestselling EPs, full-lengths and single albums in South Korea. The set is the first solo effort from Wonpil, and now that it has started off in the top spot, it’s clear that music lovers in the country adore not only the band he’s a part of, but his solo work as well.
On the Gaon Digital chart, an all-encompassing look at the 200 most-consumed tracks in South Korea, lead Pilmography single “Voiceless” launches at No. 162. All 10 songs featured on the project appear on the Gaon Download list, which looks only at purchases. Nine of them start inside the upper half of the ranking, while one misses out by just a few spots. “Voiceless” leads the pack, as it enters the race at No. 26, and it’s the only tune from the full-length to break the top 50.
As a member of Day6, Wonpil has reached the top 10 on the Gaon Albums chart with 10 different titles, including 2019’s The Book of Us: Gravity, the band’s only leader. The talented performer is also one of the three singers in the group Even of Day, a sub-unit of Day6 that features some of its members. That separate-but-connected outfit has also landed a pair of top 10 albums in South Korea, meaning Wonpil has now pushed a very lucky 13 different collections into the highest tier on the important and competitive tally.
Pilmography leads a top 10 on the Gaon Albums chart that features five debuts from major stars in the country.
