With lingering injuries to Maxi Kleber and Christian Wood, the Dallas Mavericks are taking steps to bolster their roster. Tuesday, the team announced the signing of forward Chris Silva to a 10-day contract.
Silva started the season playing with the College Park Skyhawks, the G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks. With the Skyhawks, he averaged 14.2 points on 58.6% shooting, 7.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.9 blocks and 22.4 minutes in 11 regular-season games, including 10 starts.
Players who sign 10-day contracts typically receive a prorated portion of the NBA’s minimum salary. Silva’s three years of NBA experience means he will earn $109,318 while with the Mavericks.
Silva went undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft before signing a two-way contract with the Miami Heat during the 2019-20 season. He has also played for the Sacramento King and Minnesota Timberwolves. He averages 2.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in 69 appearances during his NBA career.
Although this is SIlva’s first stint with Dallas, he’ll at least know one face in the locker room. Silva and current Mavericks two-way player AJ Lawson played together in college at the University of South Carolina in 2018-19, when Silva was a senior and Lawson was a freshman. The two also played for the Skyhawks earlier this season.
Silva, who will wear No. 30 with Dallas, is only the second player from Gabon to play in the NBA. Stephane Lasme appeared in 16 NBA games with the Heat and Golden State Warriors and was the first.
Currently, neither Kleber nor Wood have a timetable to return. Kleber has indicated that he hopes to return before the NBA All-Star break in mid-February.
