Craig Ferguson signed a deal with iHeartMedia
Ferguson is most remembered for hosting The Late Late Show on CBS from 2005-2014. He also hosted Celebrity Name Game from 2014–2017 and History’s Join or Die. Ferguson is also currently shopping a new late-night series called Channel Surf with Craig Ferguson. The show promises to be a weekly review show.
“Joy is an essential human coping mechanism and I’m interested in how different individuals manifest it, particularly when circumstances make it difficult whether it be a demanding or harrowing job, a challenging existential problem or just watching the news,” said Ferguson.
The podcast is set to come out later this year and will be distributed by iHeartPodcasts.
Ferguson is one of many late-night hosts that have come to the podcast space. Conan O’Brien notably made the cross-over into the podcast space with Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend in 2018. Chelsea Handler similarly has hosted Dear Chelsea since 2021. Larry Wilmore: Black on the Air has also run since 2017. While podcasts hosted by comedians have gained popularity, the late-comedy recap podcast has also been a popular medium. Late-night recap shows include The Late Show Pod Show with Stephen Colbert, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah: Ears Edition, Beyond the Scenes from The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Late Night with Seth Meyers Podcast and Inside Conan: An Important Hollywood Podcast.
The announcement of Joy comes on the heels of an announcement for The Late Late Show. Deadline reported that the show, which James Corden took over in 2015 after Ferguson, will be replaced after Corden puts away the desk with a reboot of Comedy Central’s long-running late-night show @midnight.
