Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc has hit theaters with sky-high critic and audience scores, and has already made tens of millions of dollars worldwide. However, after watching the movie, fans may be wondering what’s next after a successful first season and now, a successful movie.
The problem is that what’s happening next is totally muddy. Despite the success of the series, Chainsaw Man season 2 has not been announced or even confirmed as the next path forward for the series, instead of potentially another film.
If it does happen, the wait is likely to be lengthy due to how MAPPA does things. Chainsaw Man Season 1, which ran for just 12 episodes, premiered in October 2022. Now, the movie has premiered in 2025. Gaps between MAPPA shows are usually around three years, which was also the case for the movie, so that would put a not-yet-announced season 2 possibly in 2028 or later.
In terms of when we will hear actual information, we have an estimate about that as well. It took a full year for the Chainsaw Man Reze Arc movie to be announced after season 1 ended in December 2022. At Jump Festa in December 2024, the movie was announced, then out two years later. So if fans are expecting some big announcement right after the movie’s release, indications are that’s not in the cards. It could be a year from now.
Anime series can frequently be frustrating, with yawning gaps in between seasons or little information about what’s coming next at all. For instance, we’ve undergone something similar with Crunchyroll’s most popular series of all time, Solo Leveling, where season 3 plans have been nebulous at best and it’s at least 2-3 years away. In the interim, there’s a live-action Netflix movie coming.
Chainsaw Man has about 150 manga chapters, and it might not even finish the first Arc by the time this decade ends. There’s loads of source material to draw on, but with how these animated projects work, it can take a decade or more to get through them. Demon Slayer debuted in 2019, and it will likely take at least until 2029 to get its final movie released to end the series. Attack on Titan ran for a decade from 2013 to 2023. So, Chainsaw Man fans have to be ready to buckle in for the long haul here, and not even expect an announcement of what’s next for quite some time, it seems.
