Community announced via Twitter that the popular sitcom is getting a movie. The show’s official Twitter tweeted “Six seasons…” and former star Joel McHale tweeted an image with text saying, “… AND A MOVIE.” Fans of the show have used the rallying cry “Six Seasons and a Movie” as a call for more Community content. The line references a popular meta joke from the show’s original run.
McHale’s tweet also tagged Allison Brie, Ken Jeong, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Donald Glover, Gillian Anderson, Peacock, Sony TV, and the show’s Twitter. Anderson was the only actress tagged in the post who was not part of the principal cast of the original show. Gillian Jacobs was a part of the original cast. However, she is not currently on Twitter. Anderson did tweet out, “Gillian Jacobs who? I’m in @joelmchale.”
The show’s Twitter page also changed its bio to include the like “Movie coming soonish on @Peacock.”
A Community movie has been a topic of conversation by fans of the cult hit for years. Creator Dan Harmon recently teased that it was finally coming after stating it was not a matter of if but a “matter of when.”
McHale is set to come back for the movie as well as exec produce. He is set to be joined by Jacobs, Pudi, Brie, Jim Rash, and Jeong. However, Chevy Chase, Glover and Brown are not confirmed to return.
Community originally ran from 2009 to 2015. The show followed a study group at a community college and often featured bizarre and outrageous plot lines.
Further details, including the premiere date and director, have not been announced.
