Coldplay’s New Viral Smash Brings The Band’s Debut Album Back

Coldplay debuted on the Billboard 200, the chart company’s ranking of the most popular albums in America, a quarter-century ago. Back in 2000, the band launched its first full-length Parachutes, introducing itself to the world with a selection of slowly-growing singles, some of which are still beloved to this day.

Parachutes has not been falling, but rising on the rankings in a number of nations recently, as one tune from its tracklist has gone viral. In fact, the consumption of that one cut is pushing Parachutes back to various tallies, higher and higher each frame.

Parachutes Hits the Billboard 200 Again

Parachutes returns to the Billboard 200, reentering the competitive tally at No. 169. The project has now spent 79 frames somewhere on the list of the biggest titles in the country. As it returns, the full-length becomes Coldplay’s second-longest-charting album on the Billboard 200.

Parachutes Becomes Coldplay’s Second-Longest-Charting Album

Before the virality of the single “Sparks” started the resurgence of Parachutes on the Billboard 200, the album was tied with Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, as both had spent 78 frames somewhere on the roster. That latter project racked up several weeks at No. 1 in the summer of 2008, and it remains one of Coldplay’s most commercially successful and critically acclaimed releases.

A Rush of Blood to the Head Remains in the Lead

Both Parachutes and Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends come in behind only A Rush of Blood to the Head, which debuted at No. 5 in September 2002. It remains the only Coldplay project to rack up a triple-digit stays on the Billboard 200, as it has already accrued 108 periods somewhere on the ranking.

“Sparks” Gives Coldplay a New Hot 100 Smash

“Sparks” is soaring on various Billboard rankings at the moment. Its success is pushing Parachutes not only back onto the Billboard 200, but also up the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, where it rises from No. 50 to No. 43 this week. “Sparks” also debuts on the Hot 100 decades after its initial release, and it marks Coldplay’s twenty-seventh career win on that tally, as the viral smash opens at No. 93.

The tune debuts on one other list, the Rock Streaming Songs ranking, and rises on half a dozen others. “Sparks” even manages to crack the top 10 for the first time on both the Hot Rock Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts, jumping from No. 13 to No. 10 on the two lists.
