CME Group, a Chicago-headquartered derivative exchange, is planning to launch Options on Ethereum and the options are likely to launch after the Ethereum merge’s completion.
CME Group is listed as the world’s largest derivatives Exchange. On 18 August, the company said the product is under regulatory review and would be launched after 12 September.
CME Group comprises four exchanges: CME, CBOT, NYMEX, and COMEX. Each exchange provides a diverse set of global benchmarks that span all major asset classes.
Tim McCourt, Global head of Equity and FX product at CME Group, stated in his statement, “As we approach the highly anticipated Ethereum merge next month, we continue to see market participants turn to CME Group to manage ether price risk.”
He added, “Our new Ether options will offer a wide array of clients greater flexibility and added precision to manage their ether exposure ahead of market moving events.”
Perhaps the wait for the Ethereum Merge has continued since the day it was announced. After delaying many times, the launch date of the merge seems to come around soon. The Ethereum upgrade is a trending topic for discussion in the crypto industry because the network is currently the go-to blockchain for numerous crypto crazes—like DeFi, crypto games, and NFTs.
In October 2017, CME announced bitcoin futures, followed by BTC options in November 2019. The platform launched ether futures in February 2021. In May last year, the company launched micro BTC futures, followed by micro ether futures in December.
After the announcement of Ethereum Merge, over twenty-plus companies expressed their keen interest in their product registration in Ethereum Ecosystem.
