As the Department Homeland Security confirms reports the ICE agent who killed Renee Good in Minneapolis suffered from unspecified “internal bleeding” injuries, videos of the incident continue to raise doubts he was hit by Good’s car.

Key Facts
A New York Times review of several videos from the Jan. 7 incident showed “no indication” ICE officer Jonathan Ross was run over by Good’s car, refuting claims from U.S. officials, including President Donald Trump.
CBS News first reported that Ross suffered internal bleeding to his torso, but the extent of the agent’s injuries remain unclear as of Friday, and no medical officials have released any information about his condition.
Other news outlets, including ABC News, The Hill and USA Today, also reported the officer’s alleged internal bleeding, but CBS News’ original reporting has been met with skepticism—even from some of its own employees, who expressed to The Guardian “huge internal concern” about its story and the anonymous “U.S. officials” it originally cited.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said Ross was released from a hospital the same day as the incident, with DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin telling CNN “he was pretty banged up.”
Cbs Takes Heat
CBS has faced additional criticism since Bari Weiss—an opinion journalist and founder of The Free Press, known for sometimes controversial editorial positions—took over as editor-in-chief in October after CBS’s parent company Paramount merged with Skydance media, run by David Ellison and backed by his billionaire father, Larry Ellison. CBS staffers have complained to The Independent that Weiss demonstrated a “lack of professionalism” when she exchanged kisses on the cheek with Trump during a recent interview. She then faced a media firestorm after pulling a “60 MInutes” episode critical of the El Salvador prison where the Trump administration sent migrants. Ongoing media scandals have followed, with David Letterman, the former late-night king of the network, going as far as saying “CBS News is a wreck.”
Simple Bruising Can Be Considered Internal Bleeding
Federal officials have given no details about Ross’s “internal bleeding,” though social media users have repeatedly pointed out “the most common type of visible internal bleeding is a bruise,” according to the Cleveland Clinic. Bruising, which results from damaged blood vessels leaking beneath the skin, can range from minor to serious depending on the extent of tissue injury.
Why Was The Officer Released From The Hospital The Same Day?
Other skeptics point out Ross’s quick release from the hospital as their reasoning for not believing the federal response.
Chief Critic
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has maintained Good did not run over Ross, including on Jan. 9 when he told reporters, “The ICE agent walked away with a hip injury that he might as well have gotten from closing a refrigerator door with his hips. He was not injured. I’ve seen worse injuries from doing that. So give me a break. No, he was not ran over. He walked out of there with a hop in his step.”
Tangent
Elon Musk, in a post on X sharing the CBS News’ report, claimed Good “almost killed him.” His post echoes a previous statement from Vice President JD Vance, who shared a video of the incident Jan. 9, claiming it was evidence Ross’s life “was endangered and he fired in self defense.”
