Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Mixon Issued Arrest Warrant For Allegedly Pointing Gun At Woman

Topline

The Cincinnati Bengals’ starting running back Joe Mixon was reportedly issued an arrest warrant Thursday for one count of aggravated menacing for allegedly pointing a gun at a woman in downtown Cincinnati on January 21—the day before he played in his team’s divisional playoff game.

Key Facts

The warrant issued by the Hamilton County Municipal Court in Ohio includes a statement from a woman claiming Mixon pointed a gun at her and said, “I should shoot you, the police can’ (sic) get me,” according to images of the warrant shared by local media.

The Bengals said in a statement the organization is “aware misdemeanor charges have been raised against Joe Mixon,” adding it is “investigating the situation and will not comment further at this time.”

Mixon’s agent, Peter Schaffer, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Forbes.

Surprising Fact

Mixon was the Bengals’ leading rusher in the team’s divisional playoff win at the Buffalo Bills just a day after the alleged incident, running for 105 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. The Bengals were eliminated from the playoffs Sunday in their AFC Championship game loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Key Background

Mixon has a history of violence against women. He was suspended for his entire freshman season at the University of Oklahoma in 2014 after he pleaded guilty to assault for punching a woman in the face, which required her to be hospitalized. The Bengals selected him in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft with the 48th pick overall, after concerns about his character caused him to slide out of the first round. Mixon has rushed for more than 5,000 yards and scored 50 total touchdowns during his time in the NFL, which has solely been with the Bengals. Mixon was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2021.
